Eden Project - The Future
What you see today is only a part of the original concept. The plans had to be scaled down in order to get the project off the ground as there were those who felt that it was unsustainable in its original form. In the event "The Eden Project" has already been more successful than most people envisaged, having already had more than 2 million visitors.
A third semi-arid biome was part of the original plan and the designs have been redeveloped with plans to commence construction soon.
Eden is not just about an entertaining experience but also about education and the next phase intends to build upon that. The Eden Foundation leads the education programme and a new building is already under construction where people from science, art, technology and communication can come together to build an understanding of the interdependence of people and plants. There are plans for an educational resource centre along with a conference centre and on-site student accommodation.
The Visitor Centre and plant sales area are also to be expanded. Take a look at the "rammed-earth" walls when you visit. All in all, the Eden Project as we know it will continue to grow, along with the plants inside it, highlighting its ecological nature.
