Eden Project - The Future
What you see today is only a part of the original concept. The plans had to be scaled down in order to get the project off the ground as there were those who felt that it was unsustainable in its original form. In the event "The Eden Project" has already been more successful than most people envisaged, having already had more than 2 million visitors.
A third semi-arid biome was part of the original plan and the designs have been redeveloped and work continues to make this original vision a reality.
With most of its infrastructure now in place, Eden is looking outwards. New priorities centre around community and education projects - reaching beyond Eden itself into the community. The expansion and consolidation of a number of school education initiatives - particularly "Mud Between Your Toes" is very high on Eden's agenda at present.
A good example of how the Eden Project is reaching far beyond Cornwall is the Big Lunch campaign to bring communities together for an outdoor picnic in their street or local park.
The Visitor Centre and plant sales area are also to be expanded. Take a look at the "rammed-earth" walls when you visit. All in all, the Eden Project as we know it will continue to grow, along with the plants inside it, highlighting its ecological nature.
