The Porth Avallen Hotel was originally built as a family home in 1928. It holds a commanding position above the cliffs overlooking Carlyon Bay.
The Porth Avallen is a privately owned, family run hotel. The aim is to retain the ambience of a country style house, and yet still cater for those seeking comfort, a homely atmosphere but with modern luxuries and a high standard of cuisine.
The hotel is well situated for touring the local area or walking the Coastal Footpath which runs along the cliff top at the edge of the hotel's grounds.
And when you're hungry, our executive chef, Jonathan Moyle, and his award winning team work closely with local Cornish suppliers to bring you the very best and freshest seasonal produce.
Our seafood is delivered daily by our local Cornish fishermen from Mevagissey and Fowey. The tantalising a la carte menu in our acclaimed Apple Tree Bay Restaurant will offer you some of the finest Cornish meats, produce and fresh seafood you'll ever experience.
The hotel is well situated for touring the local area or walking the Coastal Footpath which runs along the cliff top at the edge of the hotel's grounds. There is a path down to the beach if you fancy a stroll or just to enjoy the spectacular views from a different perspective.
Cornwall is rich with tourist attractions ranging from a wide selections of gardens to theme parks and museums. Many visit Cornwall for the gardens which are open to the public - from The Lost Gardens of Heligan to Trebah Garden and of course on a much grander scale - The Eden Project, many of these are open all year round.
Then of course there is the countryside and coastline which is spectacular in itself and changeable from day to day and season to season. In the summer there are many local beaches, from golden sands to rocky secret coves. From moorland to rocky clifftops Cornwall has something for everyone.
There is plentiful parking in the hotel's private car park and there is disabled access to all public areas and facilities.
Why not try a days sailing on our very own two masted schooner Josephine out of Charlestown? We can also arrange yacht sailing out of Fowey, or a luxury speed boat coastal cruise from Mevagissey.
If you are a land lubber we can arrange a fantastic self drive Classic car for you to tour all your favourite places.
The only thing we overlook is the bay!
